5 new Maryland laws that hit your wallet

Take effect this Thursday.

1. Stores must take cash2/7

Covered stores can't refuse cash for essential goods — or charge you more for paying cash.
Applies to in-person purchases between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

2. No personalized grocery prices3/7

Maryland is the first state to ban it.
Grocery stores & delivery apps can't use your personal data to set a price just for you.

3. Out-of-state plates = daily fines4/7

Living in MD with out-of-state tags? After an MVA warning you have 60 days to register.
Then it's $7 a day, up to $420 per vehicle.
After 120 days, you could be booted or towed.

4. New renter protections5/7

Landlords can't turn you away for using a housing voucher.
New limits on criminal-history screening.
Landlords must offer to report your on-time rent to credit bureaus.

5. Scam protection for seniors6/7

Banks & credit unions can pause suspicious transactions for adults 65+ and vulnerable adults.
Up to 15 business days, extendable to 25.
